  • Denmark Could Face Attack If Joins Nato Shield says Russian Ambassador

In the latest round of saber rattling, the Russian ambassador to Denmark (Mikhail Vanin) stated the Denmark could be subject to attack with nuclear arms if they participate in NATO's missile defense shield. He said, quote, "I do not think that the Danes fully understand the consequences of what happens if Denmark joins the US-led missile defence," and added "If this happens Danish warships become targets for Russian nuclear missiles."

Details on this story may be read in this Agence France-Presse (AFP) article.

So Russia is saying that they intend to start attacking ships belonging to NATO countries? Hmm, they really are going to do themselves in if they don't stop this soon.

It's true that joining the US could result in all sorts of consequences. However, who's to say they are not a target anyway? Remaining alone could just as easily weaken their position.

In any case, if Vlad decides to go nuclear, we're all screwed!

I don't read it as a direct threat. Rather they are trying to intimidate Denmark with their rhetoric. Time will tell if the gambit pays off. If nothing else, it does show the bellicosity of the Russian Federation.
